About

THE HISTORY OF THE CLUB

The club was first established over half a century ago as a social space for workers on the railway line. We’ve retained the name out of respect for that heritage, but we’ve come a long way in the years since.

These days, the Rugby Club is a family-friendly space where there’s always a warm welcome to be had. From games nights to days out, we’ve expanded our offering way beyond our origins. But we like to think we’ve kept one thing the club’s original members would have recognised: a real sense of community.

We’re managed and run by a committee of volunteers, all of whom are members themselves – and many of whom have been coming to the club for decades. In other words, this is a place run by the members for the members. It matters to us because it matters to you, and we make the club everything our members want it to be.

Today, the Railway Club is at the heart of our members’ lives, from family occasions to nights out with friends. Our restaurant’s food offers tasty, high-quality food and our beer is top-notch. Our games teams routinely win matches and tournaments everywhere they go. And our function rooms are always available for hire – in fact, they’re so good we play host to a regular diary of events.

We’re a busy social hub that is always looking outwards. The Railway Club has been going strong for so many years because it’s always expanded: from railway workers to their families, from them to everyone and anyone in Rugby who loves a home-away-from-home where they can relax and make great memories.

We’re proud of the club’s history – but we’re proudest of its present. From dads and granddads popping in with the latest generation to new friends that turned up yesterday, the club is a place to put your feet up, have great food and drink, and have fun – whatever your age, wherever you’re from!
